2021 RoyalTea-by-the-Sea ❖ August 14 ❖ 2-4pm

Heritage West Vancouver welcomes all to an afternoon tea in Dundarave Park, foot of 25th.

As usual, there will be a few unusual cars, a display table; remarks about 3pm, and enjoy the tea and cookies while chatting.

There’ll be a card for the Queen to be sent with condolences re Prince Philip, birthday wishes to HRH, and congratulations for her coming Platinum Jubilee.

Slightly different however since our first RoyalTea in 2000, August 4th for the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday — owing to COVID-19 protocols, participants are requested to bring their own tea cups and saucers.

Royal Birthdays

(a) Queen’s Birthday

HRH’s birthday is April 21 (when she turned 95) but is celebrated with Trooping the Colour (of course saw when I was living in London) on the second Saturday in June (b/c better weather).

The ceremony of Trooping the Colour is believed to have been performed first during the reign of King Charles II (1660 – 1685). In 1748, it was decided that this parade would be used to mark the official birthday of the Sovereign and it became an annual event after George III became King in 1760.

West Vancouver Local Voices: Heritage & Neighbourhood Character

As we spend more time at home, the character of our neighbourhoods is more important than ever. West Vancouver Historical Society’s Local Voices presentation series moved online (with the assistance of the West Vancouver Memorial Library) to hear how some of your neighbours are taking care of heritage in our community. Presenters included:

  • Jackie Swanson and the cabins on Hollyburn Ridge
  • Tom Dodd on preserving neighbourhood character in West Vancouver
  • John Mawson and Dogwood Hill
  • Tony Dean & Yvonne Perrault and the relocation of Copper Cottage
